A man who accused a catholic bishop of abusing him when he was a child dies in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Everyone except his widow and the eccentric detective Simon Brenner keeps silent and believes that the man killed himself. Brenner and his assistant Kurti start working on this case behind the scenes of this respectable bourgeois city, running into some less than respectable matters in the course of their investigation.
