The Austrian film-maker becameknown in Austria through her movie “Nordrand”.


-      Franz Antel (28.June 1913 – 11.August 2007)

The Austrian veteran film-makerbecame famous for his K.u.k. and Brockerer movies.


-      Elfi von Dassanowsky (2.February 1924 –2.October 2007)

The youngest woman admitted toVienna’s Music and Arts Academie became famous as the only Austrian woman, whoreceived the Women’s International Center Living Legacy Award. She rejected theparticipation at the Nazi organizations and lived from this moment on in theUSA.


-      Andrea Maria Dusl (12.August 1961)

Dusl became famous after receivinga lot of famous European movie awards.


-      Fritz Lang (5.December 1890 – 2.August 1976)

The Austrian film maker was activein expressionism- movies and he became known for his movies “Metropolis” and“M” before emigrating to America.


-      Otto Preminger (5.December 1906 – 23.April 1986)

Preminger was twice nominated forthe Best Director Academy Award. He spend a part of his life in the UnitedStates. His movies were during his life seen as very controversy, since theyhad forbidden topics like rape, drugs an homosexuality.


-      Josef von Sternberg (29.May 1894 – 22.December1969)

He emigrated from Austria alreadyas a child. In America his movies became admired by famous actors like CharlieChaplin. He worked with Marlene Dietrich and become famous mostly by his earlygangster movies.


-      Billy Wilder (22.June 1906 – 27.March 2002)

After his emigration to the US,Wilder became famous for movies like “Ninotchka”. He won an Academy Award andis seen until today as one of the most brilliant filmmakers.


-      Fred Zinnemann (29.April 1907 – 14.March 1997)

Zinnemann was born in Vienna,studied in America and died in England. He received 4 Academy Awards and isfamous for movies like “From here to Eternity”, “High Noon” and “ A man for allseasons”.
