-      Leon Askin (18.September 1907 – 3.June 2005)

Askin active in the film andtheatre business. During the Second World War he had to escape to the United States, where he became famous for roles in “Adventures of Superman” and “Hogan Heroes”. He returned to Austria after the war and kept on playing in the theatre. Before his death, he received Vienna’s Gold Medal of Honor.


-      Klaus Maria Brandauer (22.June 1944)

In the American area Brandauer isknown for roles in “Mephisto” or “Never Say Never again”. He also plays in the theatre in Austria and directs some works by his own. 


-      Karl Merkatz (17.November 1930)

A well-known actor, he played“Mundl” in “Ein Echter Wiener geht nicht unter”.

Erich was an Austrian movie star in silent movies.


-      Oskar Werner (13.November 1922 – 23.October1984)

The Austrian actor was mostlyfamous in the theatre area and became known as movie actor in the movie “Der Engel mit der Posaune”.

Hedy Lamarr is one of the most famous Austrian actresses. After she flew to America, she played in movies like“Algiers”, “Samson and Delilah” or “Tortilla Flat”. She has her own star at the Hollywood Walk of fame. Furthermore, she also became notable in the world of science after the co-invention of the frequency-hopped spread spectrum.

-      Romy Schneider (23.September 1938 – 9.May 1982)

Romy Schneider was the most famous actress in Austria. Her most famous movies are “Sissi” and “Wenn der weiße Flieder blueht.”
