Military Leaders

1military.pngDuring its long history as one of Europe's most powerful empires the Austrian monarchy brought forth a number of skilled military leaders, whose names and statues can still be found on various street signs, monuments and statues in Austria.



Leopold Josej Graf Daun (1705 - 1766)
He was an Austrian field marshal during the War of Austrian Succession.


Jospeh Radeztky on Radatz (1766 - 1858)
The Austrian general is famous for thevictory at the battle of Novara ub 1849. Fythermore, Johann Strauss dedicated him his work "The Radetzky march”.


Prince Eugene of Savoy
(1663 - 1736)
The Habsburg General was famous for his victories at the Tukish and Succession wars. In reminiscence of his victories a monument was installed at the Heldenplatz in Vienna.


Wilhelm von Tegetthoff
(1827 - 1871)
During the Second war of Schleswig Tegetthoff became famous through his victory over the Italians in the Battle of Lissa in 1866.
