-      Robert Bernardis (August 7, 1908 –  August 8, 1944)

The Austrian resistance fighter was involved in the killing attempt of Adolf Hitler on July 20th 1944.


-      Rudolph Bing (January 9, 1902 – September 2, 1997)

The Austrian opera impresario was general manager of the Metropolian Opera in New York.

-      Theodor Herzl (May 2, 1860 – July 3, 1904)

The journalist founded the modern political Zionism.


-      Andreas Hofer (November 22, 1767 – February 20, 1810)

He was the leader of the tyrolean rebellion against Napoleon’s forces. He is still rememberd in the Andreas-Hofer-song "Zu Mantua in Banden". This song is nowadays the offical anthem of the state of Tyrol.


-      Alma Mahler (August 31, 1879 – December 11, 1964)

She was the wife and muse of Gustav Mahler, WalterGropius and Franz Werfel. Furthermore, she was the lover of Oskar Kokoschka.

The Austrian resistance fighter was involved in the attempt to kill Hitler on July 20th. After the war, he became an author and film producer.


-      Georg Ritter von Trapp (April 4, 1880 - May 30, 1947)

He was the head of the family portrayed in “The Sound of Music”. He earned decorations and the nobility title due to his earnings during the First World War.


-      Franz Viehboeck (August 24, 1960)

Franz Viehboeck was Austria’s first astronaut. He was a member of the mission Austromir on the 2nd October1991.


-      Simon Wiesenthal (December 31, 1908 – September 20, 2005)

The Austrian-Jewish engineer survived the holocaust. After the war, he dedicated his life to hunt down Nazis so they can be brought to justice. The Simon Wiesenthal Center is located in Los Angeles.
