Foreign Minister on Austrian presence in the region
Vienna, 16 March 2008 – "We are working energetically at all levels, together with our partners in the EU and throughout the region. The safe return of the two Austrians is our uppermost goal. From the first day of their kidnapping we have done everything possible for Wolfgang Ebner and Andrea Kloiber, as if they were our own relatives. Our objective is and remains to secure the release of the two Austrians as quickly as possible," emphasised Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik today.
"In view of the situation the Federal Government has increased the staff at the Austrian missions in several countries of the region," continued the Foreign Minister.
"For instance, a former Austrian ambassador met with Mali’s President Amadou Toumani Touré a short while ago at my initiative and informed him personally about the case. So far, however, we have not obtained any reliable information as to the exact whereabouts of the two Austrians in the region," concluded Plassnik.
