The ties between the United States and Austria reach back to the year 1661, when Austrian Jesuit missionaries arrived in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York. In 1833, the two countries agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives. The warm and friendly relationship between The United States and Austria today has been recently demonstrated again by a meeting between President George W. Bush and Federal Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel at the White House in December, 2005, and again at the EU-U.S. summit in Vienna in June, 2006. We look back at a lively transatlantic cooperation in all areas of public life, and look forward to continuing and further developing our friendship.
We will strive to do our part to strenghten the transatlantic ties between the EU and the United States, as well as Austria’s role as a friend and partner of the U.S. This web site will keep you informed about our many activities and projects.
