The Embassy-building in NW.-D.C.
The Embassy of Austria is built on a 38 acre plot in Northwest
Washington and was officially opened on October 26, 1991. The
three-story structure was designed by the Washington architect Leopold
Boeckl, son of the prominent Austrian painter and sculptor Herbert
Boeckl.
The building area comprises 52,000 square feet and the most striking feature of the structure is a 5,000 square foot sky-lit atrium in the center, which serves as an auditorium for cultural events and accommodates approximately 400 people. Adjacent to the atrium is a multipurpose room, accommodating 150 people. Besides the many cultural events organized by the Austrian Cultural Forum the Embassy welcomes groups of students from all over the United States several times a year to introduce them to Austria.
