The main objective of the Press & Information Service is to work closely with the American media as well as Austrian correspondents assigned to the United States. During visits of Austrian dignitaries, the Press Office overlooks all media aspects of their meetings with representatives of the US government. It also keeps the Austrian government informed about the media coverage of Austria in the US. Since 1995, the Press Office co-hosts and updates this website. Every year, thousands of phone- and E-mail inquires from journalists, students and private citizens are answered promptly. The bimonthly newsletter Austrian Information goes out in printed format to approximately 12,000 readers worldwide.

Austrian Cultural Forum

The Austrian Cultural Forum in Washington, D.C. continues to be a focus of cultural exchange between Austria and the United States. With sufficient space to seat up to 420 people, it is our aim to regularly host cultural, educational, as well as communal events. Together with American and Austrian partner organizations, we are able to present first-rate concerts with performances of classical- and contemporary music as well as jazz. Exhibitions, literary and academic events, film screenings and other special presentations follow suit. Each year, over 10,000 visitors attend our various programs, the majority of which are open to the public.

Consular Office

The Consular Section of the Austrian Embassy provides a variety of
services to Americans and foreign nationals traveling to Austria and
protects the interests of Austrian citizens in the United States, be
they permanent residents or visitors. Furthermore the Consular Section
handles all matters in regard to Austrian citizenship. The Consular
Section oversees the work of the Passport and Visa Office as well as
the Office of Legal and Social Security Affairs.

There are four Austrian Consulates General in the United States. As each one serves clients from a particular region, please contact the appropriate office for assistance. As a strategic crossroads for Austria and North America in the sciences, research, and research policy, the OST's main focus is in the following areas:

Military Department

The office of the Defense, Military, Navy and Air Attaché monitors various issues related to the US, Canada and Austria. To this end it undertakes the planning for decisions which will be taken by the Ministry of Defense and makes all necessary arrangements, conducts research for the study of specified matters, is focused on supply management and acts as a representative of the Austrian Ministry of Defense in respect of military and strategic aspects.
