If you are an Austrian citizen residing either permanently or for an extended period of time within the area of consular jurisdiction of the Austrian Embassy in Washington, D.C., you are kindly requested to register with the Embassy.
Why should I register with the Embassy?
If you register with the Embassy, its staff is in a better position to get in contact with you in case of an emergency or a crisis (for example, following Hurricane Katrina). We can provide you with useful information and can inform concerned relatives and friends in Austria about your whereabouts.
In addition, you will be informed about upcoming elections in Austria and how to participate in them. There is no obligation to register, but it is recommended for your own self-interest and might prove to be helpful in times of emergency and crisis.
Please note: Only if the Embassy knows where you reside in its jurisdiction can it be of assistance to you
