Amnesty International "Human Rights Art Festival"
The Austrian artist Andreas Zingerle (www.andreaszingerle.com) will present his project "Der Ueberflieger - Wearable Interfaces for spy pigeons" at the first ever Amnesty International Human Rights Art Festival. "Der Ueberflieger - Wearable Interfaces for spy pigeons" is an experimental mediaart project that combines the dead medium of the homing pigeon with modern technologies such as GPS and digital photography. The artist uses homing pigeons for aerial photography and traces their route from the point of release back to the loft. The project demonstrates that the medium of the homing pigeon combined with standard technology could be used for monitoring surrounding area and exposing private or public activities, exposing its possibilities and dangers to society.
The festival will present over 400 artists and performers presenting more than 200 arts/advocacy events at 40 venues. It will include art exhibits, film, theater, dance, music, poetry, photography, digital arts and a sculpture garden as well as dozens of workshops, book readings, performance art, flash-mob dance, break-through yoga, and activities for children.
