JUNE
June is the month of the Austrian brass band festival (“Blasmusikfest”) that for good reasons attracts band from all over Austria as well as international bands giving concerts and playing in parades. If you are fond of bonfire, June is the month to visit Austria – seeing that the important bonfires of the summer season are scheduled. They take place all over Austria: Sacred-Heart fires in Tyrol, midsummer fires on or around June 21st, and the fires of St. John on and around 24th. The latter two fires are the most important ones and burn in all parts of Austria on mountains and hills, accompanied by the catapulting of discs and hurling of torches. The meaning of these fires was historical most likely fires of danger or ritual purification or related to the sun.
