ACF DC: LECTURE/RECITAL | POST CLASSICAL ENSEMBLE: "INTERPRETING MAHLER"

  • Austrian Cultural Forum 3524 International Court Northwest Washington, DC, 20008 United States

An evening of lecture and recital by baritone Christòpheren Nomura with pianist Lura Johnson. Presentations will be held with live and recorded music on Viennese musician Gustav Mahler in New York and Mahler & “Jewishness” by James Loeffler and Joe Horowitz, host. Hear "one of classical music's rising stars" (Wall Street Journal) take you to a journey exploring the relationship between Mahler the man and Mahler the composer.
The program includes explanations and comments by eminent Viennese historian Christian Glanz from the University for Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, Austria. Other participants are Angel Gil-Ordóñez, Steven Beller and Anna Celenza.

“What hit home was Mahler's 'Songs of a Wayfarer' as performed by baritone Christòpheren Nomura. Sporting luxurious tone and a vocal range that takes him from powerful notes in the lower register to a drop-dead gorgeous voice up high…he explored every emotional dimension of Mahler's halting testimony to love, loss and resignation. Nomura sang with aching beauty.”   Baltimore Sun

“One of the country’s most innovative music groups.” -Philip Kennicott, Washington Post
