Austrian Federal Minister of Education and Culture Dr. Claudia Schmied headed the Austrian delegation to the Prague Conference on Holocaust-Era Assets from June 26-29, 2009. The Ministry of Education and Culture has played a key role in the field of restitution of looted art. As to provenance research and in a broad effort to clarify open restitution claims, a comprehensive art database with information on
objects of art and on objects of cultural value was launched in 2006.
In the field of Austrian school education, efforts to improve
Holocaust Education, mainly sponsored by the Federal Ministry of
Education, have been intensified during the last decade. Particular
importance has been given to the curriculum for the teaching of
history, the possibility for young people to meet with Holocaust
