FMEIA-Conference “Together against human trafficking”
Vienna, 14 October 2015 - “The fight against human trafficking is in need of common European efforts, especially against the backdrop of the refugee crisis”, says the head of the FMEIA Service Directorate General, Ambassador Elisabeth Tichy-Fisslberger on the occasion of the conference “Together against human trafficking”, taking place in the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna on 14 October 2015.
The event is organised by the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs – as leader of the Austrian Task Force on human trafficking – on the occasion of the EU-Anti-Trafficking-Day 2015) and already is held for the eighth time.
Ambassador Tichy-Fisslberger also welcomed the conclusions drawn from the second country report on Austria by the Council of Europe’s expert group against human trafficking (GRETA), which was published on 12 October 2015 and attests great improvements to Austria’s efforts in the fight against human trafficking. Positive highlighted are e.g. the further development of the legal framework, like the expansion of the definition of human trafficking, the increase of the degree of penalty and improvements in the compensation for victims of human trafficking. Also Austria’s commitment in international cooperation is lauded. “The positive report by the independent expert committee once again underlines the significant Austrian commitment to the fight against international human trafficking”, said Ambassador Tichy-Fisslberger.
