Open Doors Day on 26 October 2015 in the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs

On the occasion of this year’s national holiday the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs invites interested citizens to participate in guided tours between 10 am and 2 pm and learn more about the Ministry’s work. The spotlight thereby falls to the anniversary focal points of 2015: Austria’s 20 years of membership in the European Union as well as Austria’s 60 years of membership in the United Nations. Also the Federal Minister, Sebastian Kurz will be present on the Open Doors Day and will be available for an exchange and discussion with citizens.

On the occasion of the 20 years of membership in the European Union, authentic replicas of the Austrian treaty of accession to the EU as well as other accession related documents will be showcased. All visitors will have the opportunity to inform themselves about the significance and impact of the 20 years of EU-Membership for Austria in talks with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ staff. To present Austria’s work with and in the UN, among others the United Nations Development Goals – the so called #GlobalGoals as well as the Vienna Headquarters and the history of the United Nations will be presented. The following UN-Organisations will also be participating: the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United National Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation Preparatory Commission (CTBTO Preparatory Commission), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA), the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and finally Sustainable Energy for all (SE4ALL), the UN-Initiative for universal access to sustainable energy. During the tours there is a special programme for children from ages 2 and above, including children’s make up, games and a quiz. Interested representatives of the media are invited to visit the Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs on the Open Doors Day and take pictures or video shots of the premises. There will be photo opportunity with Sebastian Kurz and Yuri Fedotov, the Director General of the United Nations Bureau in Vienna at 11:45 am.
