VIENNA, 2 DECEMBER 2015 — Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sebastian Kurz met with his Kazakh colleague, Erlan Idrissov for talks in Vienna.
The Kazakh Minister of Foreign Affairs, Erlan Idrissov met with Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sebastian Kurz in Vienna on 2 December. The focal issue of the meeting was the further extension of the two countries’ existing bilateral ties. Kazakhstan is the most important economic partner in Central Asia for Austria and the European Union. Furthermore the ministers had an exchange on the upcoming Austrian chairpersonship of the OSCE in 2017, as Kazakhstan was chair only in 2010. Ministers Kurz and Idrissov will both participate in the OSCE Ministerial Council in Belgrade on 3 and 4 December.
Moreover the bilateral talks also addressed the current situation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine as well as possible solutions for Syria. Kazakhstan, like Austria has offered good offices for the Syrian question and has held an array of discussions between Syrian opposition groups in Kazakhstan this year.
