Kurz: “Working Holiday-Programme” with Hong Kong in force

A working holiday stay in Hong Kong for Austrians aged from 18 to 30 years will be possible from now on

Vienna, 5 March, 2015 – The joint statement of Austria and Hong Kong on a "Working Holiday-Programme" has entered into force on 3 March, 2015. "It means a lot to me, to encourage the finalisation of such agreements for young people, as such programmes present a good opportunity for young people to gain practical experiences on the job while simultaneously learning about other countries and cultures. This agreement provides the opportunity to increase the own horizon through a work stay in one of the most dynamic cities in Asia", underlined Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sebastian Kurz.

The agreement lets young people from Austria and Hong Kong, aged between 18 and 30 years, experience first hand the others working world and culture. During their stay young Austrians may take up to six months of paid occupation to co-finance their stay. Interested Austrians can receive further information on the application procedure on the webpage of the Hong Kong Immigration Department.

Eligible persons interested in a working-holiday stay may apply for the respective visa either at the Chinese embassy in Vienna or at the Hong Kong Immigration Department in Hong Kong, which Austrians may enter for up to three months without a visa.
