Sebastian Kurz congratulates Gabriele Kucsko-Stadlmayer on being elected judge at the European Court of Human Rights

Federal Minister Sebastian Kurz on the election of Univ. Prof. Dr. Gabriele Kucsko-Stadlmayer as new Austrian judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR): “With Gabriele Kucsko-Stadlymayer, an excellently qualified candidate has been chosen. Her legal expertise will enable her to make an important contribution to the work of this court, with its importance for the protection of human rights.” Prof. Kucsko-Stadymayer will take up her function as judge at the ECHR in November 2015. The ECHR watches over the adherence to the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms since 1998. All parties to the European Convention on Human Rights are obliged to accept the courts’ verdicts in proceedings to which they are a party. The court can also oblige states to make material compensation payments. Austria is a contracting state to the European Convention on Human Rights since 1958.
