Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kurz welcomes the Kosovarian Parliaments decision to set up a tribunal

Sebastian Kurz: The positive outcome of the vote is a clear sign of the respect for the rule of law

Vienna, 4 August 2015 - Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sebastian Kurz called the Kosovarian Parliaments decision to set up a tribunal an important step in dealing with the past. “The members of parliament have thus shown, that they are serious about thoroughly clearing up the events of the armed conflicts of the recent past in line with the principles of the rule of law. The outcome also signifies a high degree of democratic development, with the MP’s voting foremost in the interest of the country on such a difficult and emotional issue.”

Sebastian Kurz further underlined, “The Kosovarian Parliaments decision is also an important signal with respect to the Western Balkans Summit, which will take place in Vienna on 27 August. The message is that the countries of the Western Balkans are well and able to solve their conflicts and thus are able to make the progress required within the EU-approximation process, even when facing difficult challenges.”
