Relaunch of the Austrian Foreign Ministry’s successful music programme
Vienna, 12 June 2015 - The 25 young musicians as well as ensembles for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ music programme “The New Austrian Sound of Music (NASOM)” for the years 2016/17 have been confirmed. Federal Minister Sebastian Kurz showed himself pleased with the artists’, who will receive special support by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in the 2016/17 biennium, great width and the high level they perform upon: “The young musicians perfectly represent the broad spectrum and variety of the Austrian music scape. I am especially happy, that contemporary music is the centrepiece of this programme.”
A jury of experts has in cooperation with the Austrian centre for music information mica – music Austria (www.musicaustria.at) as well as with domestic universities of music selected five acts for each of the genres classic, jazz, pop, new music and world music. This next generation programme was initiated by the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs in 2002. Applications have de facto tripled this year, with their total number for the NASOM 2016/17 hitting 150. The embassies and consulates general of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs support the 25 selected ensembles and solo acts with their performances abroad. This includes the organisation of concerts as well as recommendations to foreign event managers and festivals. Thus the support provided by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs presents an important boost for young rising musicians on their way to international performances.
