Hopes that Iran will assume a constructive role in resolving regional conflicts
Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz welcomed the successful completion of the preparatory phase for the implementation of the Vienna Agreement between the E3/EU+3 and Iran.
“The Vienna Agreement follows Vienna’s long-standing tradition as a venue for dialogue and clearly highlights the fact that diplomacy and dialogue can also solve long-standing and difficult conflicts”, Sebastian Kurz stated.
As confirmed by the IAEA, Iran has thus fulfilled the commitments entered into in Vienna. Consequently, the EU will, as agreed, be able to lift the economic and financial sanctions. By way of monitoring and inspections, the Vienna-based IAEA remains responsible for ensuring that Iran continues to heed its commitments in the future.
“I hope that Iran as an important regional power will play a constructive role in resolving regional conflicts and especially so in the context of the Vienna Process on Syria”, Sebastian Kurz stressed in conclusion.
