Annual Botstiber Lecture Focusing on Pre-War Austrian Cinema

On May 29, the Embassy hosted the annual lecture sponsored by the Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies. This year’s speaker was Professor Robert Dassanowsky, a scholar of Austrian and European Film and professor of German and film studies at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. His lecture focused on the remarkable 1936 Vienna-Hollywood deal to save independent Austrian film from Nazi encroachment. The lecture was followed by a lively debate and a wine and cheese reception.
