How Austria and the U.S. are Fighting Against Terrorism and Cybercrime

The internet is a tremendously powerful tool. But this is also what makes it potentially dangerous. In the past, terrorists have used it to direct and inspire attacks. During the “EU-U.S. Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial Meeting”, the United States and the European Union recognized the need to enhance their efforts against terrorists’ use of the World Wide Web while preserving and respecting individual rights such as the freedom of speech.

The State of Transatlantic Relations and the European Union

Challenges to the world order like the current row over international agreements, the policies towards Iran and Russia, trade tensions, or migration - only a few examples of the issues the EU and the U.S. are currently facing. But do they indicate a transatlantic disconnect? On October 31, 2018, the Embassy of Austria hosted a discussion titled “The State of Transatlantic Relations and the European Union – Past, Present and Future.”

Austrian National Day Reception

On October 25, 2018, Ambassador Wolfgang Waldner and his wife Gudrun Faudon-Waldner welcomed more than 500 guests at the Embassy on the occasion of Austria’s National Day. The music program, the cultural highlight of the reception, was performed by Chicago-born opera singer Nicole Butler and the Karklina Trio from Graz in the Austrian state of Styria.

Austrian National Day in Los Angeles

The Austrian Consulate General on the West Coast celebrated this year’s Austrian National Day on October 25, 2018. About 300 invited guests, among them former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, followed the invitation by Consul General Andreas Launer and his wife Eva at a festive event in the garden of the Austrian Residence in Los Angeles’ Westside. #AustriansAbroad
