UN Security Council adopted first Resolution under Austrian Presidency |
As one of the ten elected non-permament members, Austria assumed the monthly rotating presidency of the UN Security Council for November 2009. As its first Resolution under the Austrian Presidency, the UNSC unanimously adopted Resolution 1894 on the protection of civilians in armed conflicts, a proposal convened by Austria. The Security Council Session, chaired by Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger, was also attendecd by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The new Resolution mainly deals with UN Missions and their mandate to protect civilians from persecution and/or abuse in areas with armed conflicts.

Ambassador Prosl visits Jewish School to exchange perspectives on the Holocaust |
Together with state secretary Andreas Schieder Ambassador Christian Prosl visited the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD, to meet up with curious American teenage students. Main subject of discussion was Austria's dealing with Holocaust issues in the past and in present-day Austria, like laws against Holocaust denial or how the subject is taught in schools. "I want to talk about Holocaust education for anyone who wants to listen to us. It's important that we keep the conversation alive," Prosl said.

SOS Children's Villages International celebrate 60 years |
The Ambassador of Austria to the United States is hosting a reception in honour of SOS Children's Villages , founded 60 years ago in Austria and now active in 132 countries. Her Majesty Queen Noor, Honorary Ambassador of SOS Children's Villages Jordan will present the SOS Anniversary Award to Johnson & Johnson for its support of SOS Children's Villages in Africa. Just some weeks ago, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt visited the SOS Children's Village in Amman following an invitation of Queen Noor.

LA Museum of the Holocaust honors AHMS Founder Andreas Maislinger |
On November 8 2009 Andreas Maislinger, founder of the Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service , will be awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Annual Dinner of the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust . The AHMS is an international network that provides assistance to Holocaust-related archives and museums. Since 1992 there have been about 400 Austrian Holocaust Memorial Servants who are working to study and preserve Holocaust history in lieu of military service back home.

First Marshall Plan Workshop |
From Oct 24 - Nov 1, 2009, nine Austrian and nine American high school teachers will convene in Salzburg, Austria for a workshop entitled “A Visionary Partnership across Continents: George C. Marshall and the European Recovery Program in Austria.” The objective of the workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of Marshall and the plan he conceived, foster international cooperation and encourage cultural exchange.
