Austria as future official seat of three of the five World Bank Organizations. On the occasion of the signing of the agreement, Finance Minister and
Austrian Governor of the World Bank Josef Pröll said that “through this
agreement we have succeeded in linking the World Bank more strongly to
Austria, thereby promoting Vienna’s position as an important site for
international organizations.”

Austria’s Financial System Shows Signs of Recovery in a Still Difficult Environment |
 In spring 2010, uncertainty about the sustainability of public finances in several euro area countries increased markedly. “However, Austrian banks’ exposure to these countries is not very large by international comparison, as Austrian banks have invested more in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CESEE), a region for which the most recent forecasts of the IMF and the European Commission show the onset of a moderate recovery,” Ewald Nowotny, Governor of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB), explained on the occasion of the presentation of the 19th issue of the OeNB’s Financial Stability Report. |

Commemoration at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC
On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the National Fund of the Republic of Austria for Victims of National Socialism, the Embassy of Austria in Washington, DC, hosted a commemorative event on Thursday, May 13. In addition to representatives from victims’ organizations and the State Department, numerous guests also included several Holocaust survivors from Austria.
