By the end of 2023, QUBO Technology was established as a quantum spin-off from the University of Vienna. QUBO grew from a long-standing collaboration between theory and experiment involving the groups of Borivoje Dakić and Philip Walther. The team was further strengthened when Stefan Fürnsinn, an expert in global tech businesses, joined the co-founders to put their technology on a commercialization roadmap. QUBO's R&D phase follows two directions: secure quantum communication (QUBO PayTech) and quantum machine learning (QUBO BrainTech).
QUBO PayTech focuses on application-layer solutions for quantum-secure digital payments and quantum tokenization, while QUBO BrainTech is developing models for neuromorphic computation based on quantum photonics to achieve faster and more energy-efficient solutions. The community quickly recognized the innovative potential, and together with the subsequent technological advancements, QUBO won a prestigious national Science and Business Award (Rudolf Sallinger Fonds) in Austria, further consolidating its position in the quantum industry.
They will present their solution at Barcelona's upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC25). “The European Quantum Zone Stage of MWC25 provides space for only 10 quantum companies, and we have been selected to participate. This presents a great opportunity for us to showcase our solutions and for customers to learn about them,” says Ernstjan de Gooyert, Head of Product & Technology at QUBO.
