The Embassy of Austria and the Austrian Cultural Forum Washington were delighted to partner with Salzburg Global Seminar to host a special screening of The Sound of Music in celebration of the beloved film’s 60th anniversary.

The event, held at the Austrian Embassy, also featured a panel discussion with Ambassador Petra Schneebauer and Kristina von Trapp, granddaughter of Georg and Maria von Trapp. The discussion was moderated by journalist Molly McCluskey and offered fascinating insights into the film’s enduring legacy and the real-life story behind the von Trapp family.

A highlight of the evening was the participation of Kristina von Trapp, who shared her family’s inspiring story and wore a traditional Austrian dress provided by Salzburger Heimatwerk. Guests also had the opportunity to explore Austrian craftsmanship through the presence of Gmundner Keramik, a renowned ceramics company that has been handcrafting beautiful pieces for more than 500 years. Gmundner Keramik recently partnered with the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort to create their elegant Edelweiss collection.

The Embassy extends its sincere thanks to all partners and guests who joined in celebrating Austrian heritage, film, and cultural diplomacy through this memorable event.
