On May 7, 2026, on the eve of the 70th Viennese Opera Ball New York, the Austrian Consulate General New York hosted a special reception to inaugurate this year’s debutantes and escorts.
Guests were treated to a mesmerizing opera performance by award-winning soprano, Golda Zahra, alongside warm welcoming remarks from the Ball’s board and organizers.
Representing the City of Vienna, Executive City Councillor Jürgen Czernohorszky highlighted the significance of this milestone anniversary: For seven decades, the Viennese Opera Ball New York has served as a cherished cultural bridge, strengthening the friendship between Austria and the United States.
The true highlight of the evening came when the Austrian Ambassador to the United States, Petra Schneebauer, officially introduced the 2026 debutantes and escorts. The elegant entrance of the young dancers captivated guests and set the tone for the celebratory reception to come.
The festivities continued the following evening, May 8, at the iconic Cipriani 42nd Street, where the 70th Viennese Opera Ball New York was held in grand style! The event was a great success and transformed the landmark venue into a little piece of Vienna in the center of New York City.
Special thanks to the organizers of the Viennese Opera Ball New York, in particular to Ms. Silvia Frieser, for making this cherished tradition possible year after year!
