San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park came alive on September 20th with the second annual Europe in the Park, a free cultural festival organized by the EU Office in San Francisco and the city’s Recreation & Park Department. More than 7,000 visitors enjoyed music, food, and traditions from across Europe, with 20 European states and the EU taking part. Even San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie stopped by to greet the crowd and join the festivities.
This year, the Austrian Consulate in San Francisco and OPEN AUSTRIA partnered with woom, the kid’s bike company founded in Austria, to showcase Austrian innovation. The result was one of the busiest tents at the event:
WOOM brought over 40 children’s bikes, turning Austria’s booth and its surrounding into a lively test-riding zone for families.
Guests enjoyed samples of Austrian classics including Manner Schnitten, Almdudler, Mozartkugeln and Wiener Zuckerl.
An Austria Quiz highlighted milestones such as 30 years of Austria in the EU and the country’s upcoming role as host of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest.
OPEN AUSTRIA offered handouts, including some from Austria Tourism with travel tips and information about Austria.
Austria stood alongside fellow European countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, and the Nordic and Baltic states, creating a colorful mix of cultures across 24 booths.
With bikes zipping, sweets on hand, and plenty of opportunities to learn about Austria, the booth struck a balance between culture and innovation. The combination of family-friendly activities, sports, food, and information ensured Austria left a strong impression on festival visitors and captured the spirit of our Nation well.
