Boston, MA – A delegation of innovative Austrian life science companies and cluster organizations took center stage at this year’s BIO International Convention in Boston from June 16-19, 2025 - one of the world’s leading biotechnology gatherings. The visit, organized by Open Austria East Coast, showcased Austria’s vibrant biotech ecosystem and its increasing role in global health innovation.

The Austrian delegation brought together a diverse group of forward-looking organizations:

  • ACIB GmbH (Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology), an international research hub developing sustainable biotech processes for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

  • Aileen Health, a medtech startup tackling the early detection of aggressive interval breast cancers using cutting-edge generative AI solutions.

  • Austrian Business Agency (ABA), Austria’s national investment promotion agency, supporting international businesses, skilled workers, and film productions.

  • LISA – Life Science Austria, Austria’s umbrella brand promoting the internationalization of the country’s regional life science clusters.

  • Human.technology Styria GmbH, the Styrian cluster linking research, development, and industry across biotech, medtech, and digital health.

Beyond the official BIO 2025 program, Open Austria East Coast curated a good number of meetings and networking opportunities for the delegation. These included strategic sessions with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), MassBio, Maryland Department of Commerce, LabCentral, Portal Innovations, and key stakeholders from New York, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The goal: build bridges between Austria’s life science ecosystem and key U.S. innovation hubs.

A key highlight of the week was the ABA Investor Dinner, hosted by Open Austria East Coast in the presence of Austrian Ambassador Petra Schneebauer. The event brought together biotech innovators, investors, and transatlantic partners for an evening centered on fostering collaboration, exploring new investment opportunities in Austria, and deepening Austria–U.S. connections in the life sciences sector.

The program concluded with a joint networking event at the Venture Café in the CIC Cambridge, co-organized by Open Austria and SARIO (Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency), further strengthening regional ties between Central Europe and the U.S. biotech scene.

“This week has highlighted Austria’s global strength and competitiveness in life sciences,” said Georg Lack, Co-Director of Open Austria East Coast. “At Open Austria, we help Austrian innovators—whether in biotech research or AI-driven healthcare—access U.S. markets, connect with investors and academia, and build lasting relationships with key stakeholders to grow internationally.”
