Welcome to the New Austrian Consul General in New York

The Austrian Consulate General in New York is pleased to welcome Thomas Schlesinger as Austria’s new Consul General. A seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in international relations, Consul General Schlesinger brings a deep understanding of global diplomacy and a strong commitment to advancing Austria’s interests abroad.

Prior to his arrival in New York, Mr. Schlesinger served with distinction as the Austrian Ambassador to Nigeria, where he played a key role in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting Austrian values of dialogue, multilateralism, and cooperation. His previous postings also include numerous leadership roles within the Austrian Foreign Ministry and diplomatic missions across Europe and Africa.

In his new role, Consul General Schlesinger will focus on further deepening Austrian–American relations, fostering cultural and academic exchange, and supporting the Austrian community in the northeastern United States. His four-year mandate in New York marks an exciting chapter for Austria’s diplomatic presence in one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse cities.
